Construction of the new terminal and hard-stand is well underway and we have been advised that the work will be completed within time schedule. With Eagle Air commencing their regular service between Masterton and Auckland early in the New Year, through their media advisor, we have been advised that bookings are very positive.
Heavy machinery will be working predominantly at the northern end of Hood Aerodrome, although there will be occasions when they will be encroaching other manoeuvring areas and we advise all pilots to regularly check NOTAMS for any changes either to the displacement of 06/24 seal and entry/ exit to the parallel 06/24 grass taxiway and runways. These NOTAMS and any other service bulletins will be posted to our website although it is still the responsibility of the pilots to check through the official channels.
Alan and Josh Flynn have constructed our website http://www.hoodaerodrome.org.nz/ which is hosted, free of charge, by Trust House and Technology Solutions. The website will work best if we have an ongoing supply of fresh information and we invite you to contribute articles, photos or comments to admin@hoodaerodrome.org.nz. This website is the initiative of the HUG representatives whose aim is to promote Hood Aerodrome. Alan advises that the statistics to date show the site has been viewed by more than 300 unique visitors who have in total visited the website over 3,200 times, from all corners of the world, including an email request from the United Kingdom for flying lesson information. We have incurred some set-up costs and appreciate the generosity of Gene deMarco for his monetary contribution in securing our domain names and also gratitude to our web hosts
Nominated HUG representatives meet with officials of the Masterton District Council on a regular basis and it is our intention to post these minutes here on the website. Also posted here are the minutes from the monthly HUG representative meetings. This will give everyone the opportunity to peruse the discussions that have taken place and you are invited to make comment or perhaps attend one of the meetings.
At our most recent meeting, representatives from the emergency services were in attendance, at our invitation, to comment on processes in regards to any incidents that should occur on the aerodrome. While there is not a specific written policy between Police, Fire Service and Ambulance, we were advised any initial response would be for the Fire Service to make the scene safe, injured persons would be attended by Ambulance and then Police would make the area safe. HUG representatives have been invited to make submissions for consideration towards a formal policy, which will be drafted in the near future.
From this meeting it was suggested to have all gates numbered which would enable any emergency vehicle to be directed to a specific area on the aerodrome. It was also brought to our attention, by the Fire Service, of their concerns over the lack of sufficient water, i.e. fire hydrants, at strategic locations around the aerodrome. We were advised that one hydrant will be positioned near the new terminal, however this location gives little confidence to other leaseholders and commercial operators on the western side of the aerodrome, whose buildings and contents are equally at risk. This matter will be brought to the attention of the Masterton District Council at our next meeting, as we believe there are major safety implications and this matter deserves some precedence from them.
HUG representatives will continue to promote Hood Aerodrome as a safe, friendly and an unobstructed aerodrome, ideally suited for both commercial and recreational flying. We will also continue to lobby officials of Masterton District Council to ensure there is some urgency in decision making to make land available for new hangars and the provision for services such as sewage and water.
If there are aerodrome matters you would like to discuss, please contact one of your Hood User Representatives. (Please see the Contact Us page for email addresses).
